One voice for Tasmanian football

Friday, 16 November 2018

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of football in Tasmania. Since July this year, the Government has been meeting and working closely with representatives from across the Tasmanian football community.

Today the Government once again met with football club and competition representatives and the group confirmed its unanimous support for two key priorities: to grow grassroots football state-wide across all community levels; and to forge a path towards building a Tasmanian team.

As a first step towards these key priorities, the group agreed to work towards establishing a new governance body, the Football Tasmania Board, which will be representative of all leagues and associations involved in Tasmanian football.

The Football Tasmania Board will enable all of football in Tasmania to be on the one page, to speak with one voice for Tasmanian football and to unite and strengthen Tasmania’s football future. It is proposed that the new Board will transition from the Tasmanian Football Council.

This new Board would comprise representatives of leagues and associations from across the state and umpires, and the Government would work closely with all stakeholders to represent the best interests of Tasmanian football as we push ahead to grow participation and forge a pathway towards a Tasmanian AFL team.

We thank all of the representatives for their constructive and united approach to developing one voice for Tasmanian football.
