Government a strong supporter of Tasmania’s Men’s Sheds

Wednesday

The Hodgman Majority Liberal Government is committed to supporting all Tasmanians well-being and we recognise the very important role that Tasmania’s Men’s Sheds play in their local communities.

Tasmania has the highest density of Men’s Sheds per capita in Australia and I am delighted to announce that 33 Men’s Sheds throughout Tasmania will share in $125,000 to support shed development and to deliver projects and programs that will benefit their members and the wider community.

Recognising the vitally important role Men’s Sheds play in advocating for, and supporting men’s health and well-being, the Government has delivered $374,918 for 107 Men’s Shed community focused initiatives over the past three years.

The Government has provided $125,000 under the 2018-19 Grants Program, with applicants able to apply under two categories:

  • Capital Works: Grants of up to $20,000 for capital works projects; and
  • Tools and Equipment: Grants of up to $5,000 for tools, equipment, member training and community initiatives.

Grants have been awarded to applicants right across the State from King Island Men’s Shed at Phoenix House in the far North West, to Huonville Men’s Shed in the South, Zeehan Men’s Shed on the West Coast to St Helen’s on the East Coast.

Men’s Sheds are a valuable asset to the community. They play an important role in promoting men’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities for skill sharing and intergenerational mentoring.

I congratulate the presidents and committee members of the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association, as well as of the 59 sheds right across Tasmania for their commitment, hard work and passion for improving men’s health and for providing such a welcoming and safe space for men to meet right across Tasmania.
