Hodgman Government delivering for Christmas Carnivals

Friday, 21st December 2018

The Tasmanian Christmas Carnival Series remains an important fixture over the summer holiday period, which sees local athletes take on interstate and international rivals in a range of sports.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering on our election commitment to increase the funding provided to the Sports Carnival Association of Tasmania (SCAT) to $200,000 per year for three years.

This 33 per cent increase on previous support for SCAT allow for the continued operation of the carnivals and help to promote the series.

The Christmas Carnival series is a great showcase of popular individual performances including sprints, long distance running, cycling, wood chopping and pole vaulting.

It is through the hard work of SCAT that the carnival series continues to inspire the next generation of Tasmanian athletes.

Over the years, the Tasmanian Christmas Carnival Series has attracted world class athletes like Josh Ross (Sprinter), Jana Pittman-Rawlinson (Sprinter), Tatiana Grigorieva (Pole Vaulter), and of-course Tasmania’s own Richie Porte (Cycling).

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to ensuring these important local sporting events continue.
