Jacquie Petrusma MP The Treasurer Lara Giddings today did not deny that water and sewerage bills will double under the Labor-Green Government. Tasmanians are already struggling with soaring costs of living and have been hoodwinked by this government, who have foisted upon them huge increases in utility bills. When the water and sewerage reform legislation was passed in 2008, Labor hid crucial information about what the changes would cost everyday Tasmanians. It was revealed months later when the changes were already underway.

It's no surprise the assessment of the Social Inclusion Commissioner is that the Government "can do much more" to reduce cost of living pressures. The Cost of Living Interim Report tabled in Parliament today found the Labor-Green Government could control or influence some of the factors which are increasing the cost of living risks, and Tasmanians expected the Government to do more than it is at present.
Jacquie Petrusma MP As evidenced in the Select Committee on Child Protection Progress Report tabled in Parliament today, Labor and the Greens have voted against broadening the right of the Children's Commissioner to require information from Departments when investigating important matters. As part of the deliberations of the Committee, a motion from the Liberal members was put forward to immediately remedy this situation, which was raised in evidence by both current and former Commissioners.

Jacquie Petrusma MP In an extraordinary about face, after supporting it in November, the Tasmanian Government now opposes a pay rise for Tasmania's lowest paid, female community sector workers. It is absolutely extraordinary that Cassy O'Connor, a Green Minister for Human Services and Community Development (with responsibility for the Status of Women) would oppose a pay rise for the state's female community sector workers.
Jacquie Petrusma MP Tuesday 1st March, 2011 Comment Column - Kingborough Chronicle
With the Parliamentary New Year only days away, the Tasmanian Liberals have a number of measures that we plan to introduce as part of our positive agenda to help Tasmanians deal with the increased cost of living. When Parliament resumes, we will table legislation to open up electricity competition to all Tasmanians. This is a bold move, but one which will help all those Tasmanians who are struggling to pay their power bills.
Jacquie Petrusma MP The Tasmanian community is sick of the Human Services Minister's falsehoods on the dire situation with the state's public housing. The Liberals have obtained new figures through RTI which show there is a $110 million maintenance backlog for public housing properties.
