Today in my Inaugural Speech, I committed to be a hard working Member for the electorate of Franklin. Being a good and genuine listener, as well as understanding the concerns and aspirations of my community are my promise.

As a resident of the Eastern Shore of Franklin, I am acutely aware of the issues that matter to voters on that side of the river. From campaigning and speaking to constituents since the election, I am also very well aware of the issues that concern the western shore, including the Channel area, Kingborough and the Huon Valley, such as roads, forestry, infrastructure, employment, education and health.

I also take my new responsibility as the Shadow Minister for Children very seriously.

The Liberals have welcomed continued funding for private rental support programs.

Without these programs, the critically-high public housing waiting list could double.

But waiting until the 11th hour to announce funding is not good enough.

To make the community sector wait until 20 days before funding ran out is not a good start for the Cabinet Secretary, Ms O'Connor, in building better relations with the community sector.

Yesterday I received a letter from a child who, along with younger siblings, recently had a lengthy period in State care.

The child wrote for two reasons; to let me know that the complaints of children in care were not being heard, and to make sure that other children were not treated the same way.

The nature of the complaints are extremely serious, and include allegations of physical and emotional abuse.

The child has told me complaints were made to workers by the children but were not acted on for four months until a formal notification was made by the child's advocate.

The Labor-Green Government today appeared unwilling to act decisively on an appalling case of a 33 year old man reportedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 14 year old girl who is in state care.

In a bizarre twist, it appears the Labor-Green Government has white-anted and abandoned one of its key partners in the push to halve the rate of homelessness by the end of the year.

TAHL, by any measure, has been a success and is part of the solution to the problem of homelessness and the seemingly never ending housing waiting list.

It is odd then that the Cabinet Secretary is trying to portray the collapse of the construction company, Viva, as the reason why TAHL has been left stranded.
