Jacquie Petrusma MP
Shadow Minister for Children
Tuesday 6 December, 2011
The Green-Labor Government is continuing to fail our children and it's no surprise that the Commissioner for Children has been forced to remind the Government of its obligations to young people.
The Government has been reviewing the youth justice system since 2008, yet it still hasn't done anything. How long do they need? This is just another area of systemic failure that this Green-Labor Government is responsible for that is having a negative impact on the community.
The Government is using Ashley as a one size fits all solution to a whole range of problems and it's clearly not working.
The Liberals believe that we will always need a secure facility for high risk young offenders, but we should also make sure that we have programs to keep young people out of the justice system in the first place, or to stop them re-offending.
